Hjarna

With metabolic processes that rival human supercomputers, the hjarna are the geniuses of the galaxy. Extremely obsessive, they put a premium on categorical studies, education, and rules.

The lofty pursuit of enlightenment is spurred on by their unique physiology. The hjarna have six pupils within their black eyes, and with a lobe of the brain dedicated to each pupil independently, multitasking and screen-work comes naturally. On top of this, the species reproduces via egg scattering, a kind of sexual reproduction that happens outside of the body by fertilizing eggs with a cloud of sperm. As a result, they are not distracted by a sex drive.

They do, however, experience a variety of mental illness indicative of their extreme metabolic brain function. Most hjarna suffer from a form of Turrets Syndrome which compels them to confirm. This has been integrated into their language structure through “hmm", “ah”, and “yes”. Because the symptoms are amplified by anxiety, hjarna that serve under others tend to have a higher occurrence.
